Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Soldiers Table

Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a wide array of personalities, and a gripping narrative including celestial beings, demons, and malevolent powers expanding in influence within Dol-Makjar.

Heads-up: Key plot points for Episode 3 of this adventure lie ahead.

The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed

The third episode concluded with a dramatic pause and introduced the first table of heroes who will split off from the main group to begin their separate journey, apart from the additional parties.

This warrior group includes the determined fighter (brought to life by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (Laura), Tyranny (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (Sam), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).

Why Split the Party?

Considering 13 cast members, it was evident from the beginning that having everyone at the same party would be impossible.

This explains, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Prelude, intertwining the individual narratives before dividing into three separate parties: Fighters, Strategists, and Questers.

Characteristics of the Combat Party

According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who prefer a classically intense fight-heavy story mode where non-violent answers are rare.

At first glance, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might look unsuited, but the actions of episode 3 demonstrate why these five characters are perfectly fit for the warrior group.

Reasons to Leave

For one thing, the group understands precisely where to go next after a brutal initial meeting with the enemy group.

An old friend of the deceased character—whose death started the narrative’s action—exploited The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, entering the secret base, attacking the character, and taking all the powerful objects to auction.

Casimir then paid off his debts and ran away to a fortified location in the remote area, beyond the city, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.

Character Drivers

Additionally, each member has a individual motive to leave the city Dol-Makjar:

  • Thimble, as the companion and closest confidant, seeks vengeance.
  • The adventurer knows the region and cautions that it is a nasty environment.
  • The strong character and The healer, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to eliminate the target and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
  • Yet, their reputation as important members in House Halovar could help the group access areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Furthermore, The fighter pledged a life debt to Wicander for his deliverance and will now accompany him wherever.

Fugitives

In addition, all of them are sought by the powers that rule Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making staying in the city too risky:

  • The rogue and The character are notorious outlaws.
  • The warrior and Wicander turned against the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
  • Teor is marked for death by the family.

This leaves them little choice but to journey toward the northern region in quest for the antagonist.

What’s Next?

Based on episode three’s post-show segment, we discover that the warrior group will be absent the following episode, leaving the rest of the cast members to round up the Explorers and Schemers groups.

Fans can expect finding out which adventurers will be where in the season’s final introductory chapter, released on October 24.
